About Aether Atelier

Aether Atelier is an independent research group based in Latin America, operating as a fully remote online team. We are united by a shared conviction that the deepest questions about mind, language, and meaning deserve rigorous formal treatment — and that the tools to pursue them are finally within reach.

Our Work

Our research sits at the intersection of philosophy of mind, cognitive science, theoretical linguistics, and computation. We develop formal frameworks for understanding how consciousness arises, how language coordinates minds, and how meaning is structured — not merely described.

The group's work is anchored in The Device, a book authored by principal researcher Danyiel Colin. The Device proposes a physicalist theory of consciousness and builds a philosophical framework — the Pragmatic Semantics Model — on top of it. Rather than treating consciousness as an explanatory endpoint, the book treats it as a starting constraint from which a theory of mind, language, and agency can be systematically derived.

Research Areas

  • Philosophy of Mind & Consciousness — physicalist foundations, phenomenology, the hard problem reframed
  • Cognitive Linguistics & Pragmatics — grammar as coordination protocol, meaning as mental-state navigation
  • Computation & AI — large language models through a semiotic lens, emergent communicative behaviour
  • Foundational Neuroscience — holographic encoding, neural manifolds, active inference

How We Work

We are a remote team with no institutional affiliation. Our work is publicly available — papers are open-access, the book is freely readable. We believe that independence from academia enables a kind of intellectual risk-taking that institutional pressures often suppress.
